Desenhos Animados… a Nostalgia!

I got mail…

Posted in Life at 1:49 pm by pmatos

from myself… except I was a year younger! :-)

Remember I said I sent a message through FutureMe?

Here it is:

(The following is an e-mail from the past, composed on Monday, December 19, 2005, and sent via FutureMe.org)

Dear FutureMe,

How’s your PhD? Have you really gotten to be in Southampton? Is it nice?
I hope things with your darling are nice and everything went out fine with the England stuff and so. I wish you all the best. Please, do have a Merry Christmas and a happy new year of 2007.

Oh and give a kiss to your mum and a hug to your brother, which are also mine… but older! :)

Cheers,

Paulo Matos (1 year younger)

Oh well, it’s so nice to see that most of my important objectives were achieved in 2006! I’m really, really happy. Hopefully, 2007 will be even nicer.

And here it goes a message directly to December, 2009…

The Magicians’ Guild (by: Trudi Canavan)

The Magicians’ Guild by Trudi Canavan

Personal Comments:

The Magicians’ Guild by Trudi Canavan is the first book of the “Black Magician Trilogy”. As you might have guessed, I’ve not read the other books, yet!
This book is an easy an enjoyable read. In fact, not probably the 30 pages until the story settles and you understand what’s going on. The first 30 pages were quite hard to go through but after that everything changes. You’ll have a furious adventure filled with mistery and mad runs, emotion and also some humour. Turns out Trudi is a great writer which was able to write a very nice fantasy from which a film would be just great! In fact, after reading the book I only thought when could I check it in the cinema and which actors were good for a given role. I do recommend it because it is very nice book and by a very low price as you can see by the amazon.co.uk page.

The end is quite astonishing because it end on a really sensational part. Well, it will really, really make buy the second book. By reading only the first you don’t really feel satisfied because although the read was great up until now, the best is yet to come.

The move…

Posted in Life, Photos at 11:21 pm by pmatos

Due to the fire on Mountbatten building last year, a lot of stuff changed here and a new building was built for us. Mountbatten was demolished and in its place a new shiny building is being built in its place.

I cannot possibly leave this go on without showing it up. The new building to which I just moved yesterday is just awesome. Open space for PhDs divided into 4-person or 6-persons bay, offices for academics, 4 floors, huge coffee room, seminar rooms, free spaces with sofas for discussions, cosy environment, nice server rooms and high security with entrance and exit only enabled by security cards to every door.

It’s really very nice! And I leave some a photo of it from the outside before I entered it the first time… yesterday morning!

And now some blurred photo of my corner at the new building.

By the way, the machine you’re seeing is a very very very nice machine which I bought with the money Southampton University offered me as a PhD student for research products.
I was installing Gentoo 2006.1 on this Intel Pentium D EM64T technology, 2 cores at 3.4Ghz, 4 Gb RAM, 320 Gb SATA hardrive, DVD/CD reader/writer combo, card readers, external IDE interface and a GeForce 7600GS graphics card. The monitor is excellent, a 19” Samsung 920N.

From now on, I’ll be uploading a couple of photos (Photos category) everytime I have them handy and nice (ok, I’m not a great artist so probably they won’t be nice…)

Anyway, get ready, set… GO!

Let there be a Minority Report…

It’s funny to think that there were things you said : “Ah, that’s not really possible… that’s sci-fi!” But then again you come to say.. “Oh my… that’s real now!”

Is this murder prediction really possible, in practice? To tell you the truth, do we really want it?
