Shooter

Shooter

10m1.jpgPlot Outline:A marksman (Wahlberg) living in exile is coaxed back into action after learning of a plot to kill the president. Ultimately double-crossed and framed for the attempt, he goes on the run to track the real killer and find out who exactly set him up, and why.

Personal Comments:

I see the shooter as ‘one of a kind’. It seems an original idea, I liked Mark Wahlberg performance and the plot is good and full of action. I do recommend this movie. I saw it in the cinemas with a huge screen and great sound but I guess it is as good as at home. Just watch it! You will definitely have a great time.

The Sentinel

The Sentinel

10m.jpgPlot Outline: A secret service agent is framed as the mole in an assassination attempt on the president. He must clear his name and foil another assassination attempt while on the run from a relentless FBI agent.

Personal Comments:

Here I am, trying to write about movies I’ve seen some time ago but lately time as been of great importance so these low priority reviews moved to the end of the queue but here they are.
This movie, as a 24 fan, is very awkward in the sense that Kiefer Sutherland is Jack Bauer and no one else. I definitely prefer him as Jack. However, the movie itself revealed Eva Longoria, the desperate housewife which becomes a very sexy police officer. The plot itself is nice but it lacks action. I would imagine Kiefer doing a better movie than this one. Unfortunately, it was this the result. Not that bad but it’s a nice renting for an evening.

Click

Click

10m2.jpgPlot Outline:“Click” focuses on a workaholic architect who finds a universal remote that allows him to fast-forward and rewind to different parts of his life. Complications arise when the remote starts to overrule his choices.

Personal Comments:

I rented this movie last week while in Portugal and it was just because I didn’t want to see a too ‘serious’ movie. Adam Sandler is one of those actors which doesn’t seem to be able to do a quite serious movie. Well, I got what I asked. It was an easy going movie with a simple ending. Nothing really special as a movie overall, in my opinion. Tells you, however, that you should not want to fast-forward your life! :-)

I would only tell you to watch it if you don’t have anything else to watch…

High Crimes

High Crimes

24m.jpgPlot Outline: High powered lawyer Claire Kubik finds her world turned upside down when her husband, who she thought was Tom Kubik, is arrested and is revealed to be Ron Chapman. Chapman is on trial for a murder of Latin American villagers while he was in the Marines. Claire soon learns that to navigate the military justice system, she’ll need help from the somewhat unconventional Charlie Grimes; meanwhile, Claire’s sister, Jackie, is falling in love with wet-behind-the-ears Lieutenant Embry assigned as the official defense lawyer. And most of the eyewitnesses have rather too conveniently died.

Personal Comments:

If there are two actors I specially like are Morgan Freeman and Denzel Washington. I saw this movie last week when I stopped in Portugal for a few days and had the time to rent it. The movie is not Morgan Freeman centered but it is very good and Morgan Freeman has a good role. Even though it is not a huge movie, it is definitely worth to see! I always likes movies about lawyers and this is definitely it!

Apocalypto

Apocalypto

10m1.jpgPlot Outline:As the Mayan kingdom faces its decline, the rulers insist the key to prosperity is to build more temples and offer human sacrifices. Jaguar Paw (Youngblood), a young man captured for sacrifice, flees to avoid his fate.

Personal Comments:

This review is again quite outdated, since I saw this is in the cinemas a little bit after Christmas while my stay in Portugal. I had enormous expectations from this movie. Mel Gibson had made a huge movie out of “The Passion of Christ” and I had high expectations. It is indeed a huge movie which you should not lose the opportunity to see. Although there are no known actors, he really made it. The movie is so real, it makes you chill at moments… sometimes you really think you go back in time.
For those who had the opportunity to visit Chichen Itza, it is huge to see those structures on the movie and remember how they were in reality.

I had the luck to be there with a couple of friends in 2004.

Don’t miss Mexico if you have the chance to go there… and don’t fall off Chichen Itza… it’d not be a good experience!

The Prestige

10m.jpgPlot Outline:Robert and Alfred are rival magicians. When Alfred performs the ultimate magic trick, Robert tries desperately to find out the secret to the trick.

Personal Comments:

As you’re probably wondering, yes, this review is quite outdated. It dates back to Christmas when I was still in Portugal and went to the cinema to see this movie. Still, I had it in my stack and this movie is still quite in my memory. It’s definitely a very good movie by Christopher Nolan. By going back through his movies, this one exceeded my expectations. Although it seems to have a simple plot going round and round with magicians, it gets puzzling and mind-boggling as you go along. The end is completely unexpected and makes you want to see it once more. A very good movie which is worth to see. :-) At this time, buy it or rent it!

Deja Vu

Deja Vu

Plot Outline: An ATF agent travels back in time to save a woman from being murdered, falling in love with her during the process.

Personal Comments:

This one is a recent movie which was just release a little more than a month ago, during Christmas time in Portugal. I was there and I would not lose the chance to see a Denzel movie in the cinemas. This movie talks about what happens to many people: Deja Vu. What the hell is this phenomenon that leaves you thinking that things have already happened to you before. The answer the movie provides is tantalizing. If provides you answer but not all the answer, it is not inconsistent and leaves you thinking about it. The fact that just doesn’t provide you a fantasy answer, gives more realism to the possibility the movie suggests. The plot is very good and once again Denzel on its best. This is surely one of Denzels top ten.

Manchurian Candidate

Manchurian Candidate

Plot Outline: In the midst of the Gulf War, soldiers are kidnapped and brainwashed for sinister purposes.

Personal Comments:

The most wierd thing happened. This movies has been on my movie stack for more than a month since I saw it during my Christmas stay in Portugal and I rented it because I thought I hadn’t seen it yet. Well, I was wrong. The weird thing is that this usually doesn’t really happen to me. Well, so here’s a review and I’m sure I won’t repeat this error again, at least with this movie. The movie itself is not bad, after all the main actor is Denzel, my favorite. However, it’s not one of the best of his movies. It is quite nice to see but not a Denzel masterpiece. The acting itself is ok but the plot misses more action, more movement. Unfortunately, a black spot on Denzels career, IMO.

Saw III

Saw III

Plot Outline: Jigsaw kidnaps a doctor to keep him alive while he watches his new apprentice put an unlucky citizen through a brutal test.

Personal Comments:

After Saw I and Saw II I thought that it would definitely not be possible to keep up the rhythm, but I was wrong… oh, so wrong!

This Saw is again full of gory details, which you just can’t miss, a lot of terrible puzzles and of course, our Jigsaw still lives! Now, a fourth one is coming! I really, really, really hope it doesn’t make this series a crap and I hope it to be the last one. When these things get too big they tend to degenerate and probably will if they keep inventing new puzzles! Still, this one is as good as the previous two. If you like horror movies, just check all three, get some coke and popcorns and get delighted by the best horror movies you’ve ever seen!

Failure to Launch

Failure to Launch

Personal Comments: A thirtysomething slacker suspects his parents of setting him up with his dream girl so he’ll finally vacate their home.

Personal Comments:

At the time I rented this one I was really trying to find a good comedy… well, this is not the one. Unfortunately, I can’t remember my last good comedy. It seems somehow that the movies which make me laugh are usually not comedies at all. Where are the good comedies where you can just laugh all movie long? Well, this story is reasonable, but the play is boring and there’s not much laughs during the movie. In the end you’ll just think about the money you wasted and that’s not a good sign.
