Proof

This is the first movie I’ll be talking about on my newly created category of movies, in which I’ll be discussing some movies going through Portuguese Cinemas…

It was rather difficult to see this movie since this week we (I and my girlfriend) could only find it on Amoreiras Shopping Center. I’ve not heard much about this movie and it hasn’t got much popularity but the movie outline caught my attention and mainly my girlfriend’s attention.
Although I was quite scared it could be a “Beautiful Mind”-like movie, it turned out to be rather different…

Proof

Plot Outline: The daughter of a brilliant but mentally disturbed mathematician, recently deceased, tries to come to grips with her possible inheritance: his insanity. Complicating matters are one of her father’s ex-students who wants to search through his papers and her estranged sister who shows up to help settle his affairs.

Personal Comments:

The strong tagline The biggest risk in life is not taking one. is a very strong one which the viewer will only understand in the end of the movie. The movie is all about Gwyneth Paltrow performance as Catherine, son of a world-wide known mathematician. Although the story is all about proof in Mathematics, the mathematical content is rather scarce, and I would like to see a more heavy-weight mathematical movie. Still, the movie is brilliant. Full of emotion and always grasping mathematical madness but in a quite different way that Ron Howard’s “Beautiful Mind” did. Anthony Hopkins did a nice job but Gwyneth has done a major role with all the turn-arounds in the movie.

Someone interested in a thrilling emotion-full movie should see this one. The end is unexpected but the whole plot is great!
